Denny was a 1968 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School and a 1975 graduate of the University of Detroit with a degree in civil engineering. After college, Denny spent most of his working career as the President and co-owner of Floral City Beverage Company here in Monroe, Michigan.

Throughout his life, Denny was very active in the community, but dedicated his greatest energies to his alma mater, SMCC. There is not an aspect of the school’s operations that Denny and Mary Pat’s generosity and dedicated volunteerism hasn’t touched. Beyond their extraordinary generosity to SMCC, the Millers are the one of the greatest examples of service and servant leadership our school has ever known.

Denny served a total of 12 years over two terms on the SMCC School Board, including four years as the Board’s Chairman. He took on leadership roles in all four of the school’s capital campaigns since the 1986 merger, including chairing the 1999 campaign known as Soaring on the Wings of Tradition.

For over 20 years, Denny was in charge of the large scale decorating effort that transforms the SMCC gymnasium for the school’s annual Auction.

He organized and ran the first-ever Athletic Boosters Reverse Raffle event. He also helped lead the effort that created the SMCC Touchdown Club and launch that group’s annual Final Four Party which provides the majority of the program’s annual funding.

When now legendary Falcon Football coach, Jack Giarmo was first considering accepting the head coaching position he had serious reservations as SMCC was without a practice facility. Upon learning of Coach Giarmo’s concern, Denny stepped forward and developed the football practice field that the school uses to this day at his business’ property on Huber Drive. Denny then went on to personally maintain the field himself for many years.
